Building the Encore Network for the Future, with a New Home at Inspiring Service

Inspiring Service is pleased to announce that it will become the new home of the Encore Network, a membership organization for leaders around the world committed to helping people over 50 explore new ways to make a difference in their communities.

“As a long-time Encore Network member, I’ve been highly impressed by the members’ passion, mission and impact. In our more-old-than-young society, the Network is a vital connector, and I’m excited by the opportunity to help elevate its work,” said Craig Young, founder and executive director of Inspiring Service, a three-year-old technology-focused 501(c)(3).

Encore.org launched the Encore Network in 2011 to connect leaders of a growing movement of older adults seeking to contribute in new ways and to new ends in the second half of life. In 2014, the Network expanded its reach across the globe. Over the past nine years, the Network has championed the value of older adults as an underused resource, connecting members to learn, grow, and impact their communities.

In the meantime, Encore.org launched a new chapter of its work, focused on building intergenerational connection and collaboration to solve problems, bridge divides, bring joy to the second half of life, and help all ages thrive.

“We’re thrilled that Inspiring Service, an organization founded and led by a Network member, will become the Network’s new home,” said Nancy Peterson, vice president at Encore.org. “Inspiring Service has made a big commitment to provide creative technology solutions to help the Network expand and thrive long into the future. We look forward to a close and mutually beneficial relationship with all parties.”

Inspiring Service will become the Encore Network’s fiscal sponsor in October, 2020, and will provide technology and operations support. Network members will continue to provide leadership and strategic direction for the group.

“In 2020, the Network’s resources are more important than ever, with rampant ageism, older workers facing stiff headwinds and organizations trying to do more with fewer resources,” said Network lead Betsy Werley, who launched her own encore in 2005. “Inspiring Service offers tech expertise that expands our value and reach. This new partnership, and our continuing relationship with Encore.org, position us for more growth.’

Inspiring Service was founded in 2017 by Cincinnati software entrepreneur Craig Young. After two decades of seeing first-hand — as a philanthropist and a volunteer —how technology has failed nonprofits, he launched Inspiring Service to develop and deploy technology empowering people to discover and connect with their ways to help strengthen their community and themselves.
